Women driving was impermissible to some Muftīs just a few years ago, and today perhaps their own daughters and wives own cars. Some scholars considered it impermissible and misguidance to use tools to define the Qiblah direction in the past, and today everyone uses their apps to decide the direction of the Qiblah without a second thought.
Coffee was deemed haram by some Muftīs at some point, and today it has become a staple in gatherings of knowledge. Pictures and videos were impermissible to many just a few years ago, and today some of those very people who prohibited it are posted all over the internet.
Likewise, in the recent past many raced to prohibit cryptocurrencies indiscriminately and I assure you that these very people will have no choice but to buy such currency when paper money slowly losses utility. Some continue to cling in the moon-sighting issue to sighting alone, and I stand ascertained that time and the forceful realities of this world will force them or their protégés to move own.
It is a fact that many people end up having a crisis of faith when they observe such stark and sometimes unexplainable changes. If a Muftī is unable to keep the inevitable realities of the world in mind, his fatāwā do more damage to the faith of the faithful than good. Seek out Muftīs who remain true to Islam, without forgetting the compelling realities of this world. Look for Muftīs who can foresee the inevitable, and are not shackled by nostalgic past.
